Official Announcement:
DC385 Rebrands as Utah County Hackers
To our community, colleagues, and fellow hackers,
DC385 has been proud to represent Utah County as an official DEF CON Group, working to grow a local community centered around curiosity, skill-sharing, and ethical hacking. Over the past year, we've built something meaningful together.
In light of recent policy changes regarding the identification of Points of Contact (POCs) within DEF CON Groups — and the absence of a formal mechanism for group-level dialogue or feedback — we have made the decision to respectfully step away from the DEF CON Groups program and rebrand as an independent entity: Utah County Hackers.
This decision was not made lightly. It reflects our desire to maintain autonomy in how we build and lead our local community, while ensuring our values of inclusivity, safety, and transparency remain front and center.
What’s next?
We will continue organizing meetups, trainings, and community-building efforts under the Utah County Hackers banner. Our mission remains the same: to support and grow a vibrant, ethical hacking community in Utah County.
To be clear, this is a change in affiliation — not in ethos. I remain a proud supporter of DEF CON and will continue to participate in and contribute to the broader DEF CON ecosystem in other capacities. We’re grateful for the experiences and relationships formed under the DC385 name, and we look forward to this next chapter with renewed focus and independence.
